When Andy Hertzfeld joined the Macintosh team, he got a briefing from Bud Tribble, the other software designer, about the huge amount of work that still needed to be done.
Jobs wanted it finished by January 1982, less than a year away.
“That’s crazy,” Hertzfeld said. “There’s no way.”
Tribble said that Jobs would not accept any contrary facts.
“The best way to describe the situation is a term from Star Trek,” Tribble explained.
“Steve has a reality distortion field.” When Hertzfeld looked puzzled, Tribble elaborated(자세히 설명했다).
“In his presence, reality is malleable(잘 변하는).
He can convince anyone of practically anything.
It wears off(점점 사라진다) when he’s not around, but it makes it hard to have realistic schedules.”

"미쳤어. 절대 못해."라고 허츠펠드가 말했다.
Tribble said that Jobs would not accept any contrary facts.
트리블이 말하길, 잡스는 그때까지 끝내지 못한다는 사실을 용납하지 않을거라 했다.
“The best way to describe the situation is a term from Star Trek,” Tribble explained.
"그때의 상황을 설명하기 위한 최선의 방법은 스타트렉의 용어를 사용하는 거였어요."라고 트리블이 설명했다.

허츠펠드가 당황스러워하자 트리블이 자세히 설명했다. "스티브는 현실 왜곡장을 갖고 있어요. 그가 있으면 현실은 변해 버려요. 누구에게든 어떤 것이든 스티브는 그걸 납득시켜 버리죠. 스티브가 주변에 없으면 현실 왜곡장은 점점 사라지는데, 그땐 비현실적인 스케줄만 남아 있게 되요."
